According to an existing view regarding the relationship between art and moral knowledge, for a work of art to engage sufficiently with moral issues requires similarly complex, or refined literary engagement or intention for such depictions [Gilmore (2020); 102–133]. Here, I hope to motivate a different way to think of narratives which highlight their extra-aesthetic properties regardless of the artistic intent behind the work. I will propose a sentimentalist account of moral testimony based in narrative in which the necessary relationship between moral knowledge and narrative is grounding.
